Mushrooms are one of my favorite subjects to explore, both in nature and in paint. The colors, patterns and variety of forms keep me always on the lookout during hikes. And there's an element of magic to them; they seem to occupy a space between plant and animal.

These are polypore mushrooms, those many pores create the fantastical pattern you see in this painting. I worked with images of white mushrooms and injected my own color story to add intensity to the whole piece. The finished product reminded me of coral and deep sea life, hence the name.
