The side of my house is covered in Virginia Creeper, an ivy that creates layers of beautiful leaves. In the fall, they turn to purples, reds, oranges and pinks. This painting is part of my “Autumn’s Glory” collection that celebrates both the natural patters of the leaves layered on top of one another and the colors of fall.

I was as interested in the foreground leaves as I was in the background space in this painting. The sun was hitting the foreground perfectly to set the reds and yellows on fire, but the background had such a cooling effect as it hid in the shadows. I loved creating that visual contrast with color, and playing with hard edges and soft focus.

The edges of the canvas are painted black with artists signature in green.
